Forest weather stations to protect against hill fires

Forest fires are a highly destructive and difficult to control disaster. With global climate change, hot, dry and windy weather has become more frequent in the country, leading to an increase in flammable materials in forested areas and a rise in fire risk. Meteorological conditions such as humidity, temperature, rainfall and wind directly affect the occurrence and spread of fire. Dry and windy weather is more likely to cause fires. By analysing meteorological data and satellite remote sensing information, we can predict fire risks and take measures to reduce fire risk levels and prevent fires.

In order to better prevent and respond to forest fires, on 1 April 2019, China began to implement a new national standard, Forest Fire Danger Meteorological Level. This standard clarifies how to define and calculate the meteorological level of forest fire risk, helping us monitor and forecast forest fire risk, thus providing a scientific basis for forest fire prevention work.

The fire risk rating reflects the magnitude of the risk of a fire occurring rather than the actual severity of the fire. The rating helps management understand and predict the fire risk in forests and grasslands, and guides the formulation of fire prevention plans and the allocation of resources and personnel. For example, it can help determine whether fire prevention measures such as mountain closures, watering, or removal of combustible materials are needed. The fire risk level can also provide decision support to emergency services in the event of a fire, helping to prevent fires and reduce losses.

The Forest Weather Station monitors meteorological conditions in the forest in real time and sends data over the 4G network. This information is used to assess fire risk and can send back live video in real time, helping to spot fires in a timely manner and providing a basis for fire prevention decisions.

The Forest Weather Station is also equipped with a voice broadcasting function, when someone or a vehicle enters a specific area, it will automatically send out reminders, such as "please do not bring fire into the mountain, strictly prohibit the use of fire in the field", which has become an effective auxiliary tool for forest fire prevention.
