Introduction to Road Condition Detectors

Europe and the United States were the first countries to develop road weather monitoring and warning systems, which are very important, and in 1984, more than 30 developed countries, mainly in Europe and the United States, joined together to form an organisation called SIRWEC, which is dedicated to the promotion and use of such systems. This organisation helps countries to use weather information to make roads safer.

In the 1980s, the Road Weather Information System (RWIS) was introduced in Europe and later in North America. The system has a good cost to effectiveness ratio of 1:8 and is now an indispensable tool in intelligent transport.

The pavement condition detector is a key component of the Road Weather Information System (RWIS), which consists of a variety of microsensors, signal processing circuits and system software. These sensors are capable of monitoring the temperature of the pavement and roadbed, the condition of the road cover, the critical temperature of icing, and the thickness of the water film of standing water.

This detector is able to monitor the meteorological conditions of the road surface in real time, analyse potential inclement weather and issue early warnings. It provides accurate information to relevant authorities, drivers and pedestrians about conditions such as water, snow and ice on the road, helping to improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents.

The Road Condition Detector uses special optical technologies, such as visible light and lasers, to check the temperature of the road surface, the thickness of water and ice, and the friction of the road surface from a distance. This device is easy to install and doesn't require road digging or complicated construction, it just sits on a riser or shelf and works. In this way, it can quickly tell us about the condition of the road surface and help us keep the road safe.

This device has a monolithic design with no complex mechanical parts, which allows it to work stably in environments ranging from extremely cold -40 degrees to extremely hot 80 degrees, ensuring high stability and long-term trouble-free operation.
